Terp Alum Fulks Bests Former UM Roommate Dougherty In Major League Lacrosse Action

Aug. 19, 2001

BALTIMORE Md. - Former Terp lacrosse star and current Bayhawks midfielder Kip Fulks entered Saturday's game against the Rochester Rattlers with one thing on his mind: Score a goal on his former college roommate, Brian Dougherty.

The hottest goalie in Major League Lacrosse, Dougherty had shut out Fulks three times. But this time, Fulks got the best of his former University of Maryland roommate, scoring three goals to lead the Bayhawks to a 12-11 victory before 3,173 at Homewood Field.

"You don't know how good it felt to score three times today," Fulks said. "He was yelling: 'Let him shoot.' So I just drilled it down his throat."

With the victory over the Rattlers (8-5), the Bayhawks (9-4) took sole possession of first place in the Nationals Division. The victors also moved one step closer to earning a berth in the MLL playoffs, where the two top teams qualify from each division. A win next weekend on the road against the New Jersey Pride (8-5) would give the Bayhawks the Nationals title and a spot in the postseason.
