
Maryland Ranked 15th In Soccer America's Men's Preseason Poll

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - - The University of Maryland men's soccer team has been ranked No. 15 in the 2001 preseason Soccer America poll. The Terrapins are coming off a 10-9 season riddled with injuries and return 12 letterwinners, including Maryland's lone senior Beckett Hollenbach (Havertown, Pa.)
The Terps meet seven other teams ranked in Soccer America's Top 20. Maryland opens the regular season on Aug. 31 against No. 7 UCLA at the Virginia/Coca-Cola Classic and a week later hosts No. 8 Creighton on Sept. 7 during the Maryland/FILA Classic. Other Maryland opponents in the poll include four ACC foes: No. 3 Virginia (Nov. 2- Home), No. 6 Clemson (Oct. 28- Away), No. 12 North Carolina (Oct. 7- Away), and No. 20 Duke (Sept. 22- Away). The Terps also travel to No. 19 South Carolina's Tournament, the Gamecock Soccer Classic, on Oct. 19-21.
Maryland has one exhibition game remaining before the regular season kicks-off on Aug. 31 at the Virginia/Coca-Cola Classic. The Terps host Richmond at Ludwig Field on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. Earlier this week, Maryland defeated Georgetown 3-0 to open preseason action.
