COLLEGE PARK, Md. - - Terrapin senior defender Beckett Hollenbach (Havertown, Pa.) has been named a third-team preseason All-American by CollegeSoccerNews.com, formerly Maddog Soccer.com. Hollenbach and the Terps report to camp in less than two weeks to begin preparing for the 2001 season, which kicks off at the Virginia/Coca-Cola Classic Tournament on August 31 against UCLA.
Serving his third year as team captain, Hollenbach is the lone senior for this year's Terrapin team. A four-year starter on defense, he returns as the veteran player in a cast of thirteen returning letterwinners. Hollenbach has tallied three goals and 11 assists for his career. A 1999 All-ACC selection, Hollenbach has also received accolades from Soccer America and the NSCAA during his career at Maryland.
Maryland was ranked 27th in the College Soccer News Preseason poll. Last year's leading scorer Abe Thompson (Alexandria, Va.), who finished the year with 13 goals and five assists, was also listed on the site's list of "21 finishers to keep an eye on in 2001."
