Wake Comes To Town Sunday for UM'S First ACC Home Game
MARYLAND (3-3) vs. WAKE FOREST (4-3)
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2001 * NOON
Ludwig Field (4,000/Grass), COLLEGE PARK, MD.
* Maryland is looking to take back the edge in their series with Wake Forest, which currently stands at 10-10-3.
The Terps suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss to the Deacs last season at Spry Stadium.
* Sasho Cirovski has a 4-5 record against the Deacs since he arrived at Maryland in 1993.
* The current Terps have a 1-2 record against Wake Forest including two overtime contests, one victory and one loss. Duke has outscored the Terps 7-6 since senior Beckett Hollenbach (Havertown, Pa.) and redshirt-junior Kevin Schmidt's (Westfield, N.J.) class arrived in 1998.
* Last year against Wake Forest: Maryland's three goals weren't enough to overcome the Deacs last year, as Wake's Ben Stafford hit the gamewinner in the 99th minute. Tyler Pharr (1998-2000), Jason Sardis (1997-2000) and Philip Salyer (Dallas, Texas) each scored for the Terps, while an own goal, and a goal by Kevin Wickart and two by Ben Stafford gave the Deacs the win.
Taking A Look at the Demon Deacons
* Wake Forest enters this Sunday's match with the Terps with a 4-3 record. The Demon Deacons have defeated James Madison (2-0), George Mason (3-1), Richmond (3-1), and Gardner-Webb (2-0), and have fallen to Dartmouth (0-1), Virginia (0-1), and South Carolina (1-2).
* Jeremiah White leads Wake Forest with five goals and one assist. Six other Deacs have each scored goals.
* William Hesmer mans the nest for Wake Forest and has played every minute this season. He has a 0.86 gaa and a .846 save percentage.
Schedule Changes
* Maryland has three schedule changes remaining after today's rescheduled Wake Forest game. The schedule was changes are due to conflicts and postponements, three of which are conference match-ups. All are home contests to be held at Ludwig Field. Changes start with the Holy Cross game, previously the Terps' final regular season home contest scheduled for Nov. 9, which has been moved to Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. The Nov. 2 game against conference-rival Virginia has now been moved to Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. The final rescheduled game is the NC State game that was to be played on Sept. 16. That game will now be played at 1 p.m. on Nov. 11 and will be the Terps' final home game of the regular season.
V-Tag Returns To Lineup
* Terp fans saw a familiar face on the field again when sophomore Bryan Vitagliano checked into the Loyola game at the 34:17 mark. "V-Tag" to his Terp teammates has been struggling with a nagging injury most of the season, but finally saw his first action against Loyola and logged some significant time off the bench for Maryland. Vitagliano entered 2001 as the second highest returning scorer from 2000, scoring four goals and four assists last season.

Rohrman Honored by CSN
* College Soccer News recently named Maryland coach Jeff Rohrman one of the nation's top assistants in the country. An excellent teacher with a vast knowledge of the game, CSN said that Rohrman is "a talented coach and a very natural fit with Maryland program head coach Sasho Cirovski. They both share a genuine passion for the game that is reflected in the type of teams Maryland puts on the field." Rohrman has been with the Terps since 1994. A 1986 graduate of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he and Cirovski played together for the Panthers for two years.
