
Terps' Men's Soccer Hosts Maryland/FILA Classic This Weekend

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 5 Maryland men's soccer team will host the Maryland/FILA Classic this weekend, featuring top-level competition in four games spread over two days.
No. 3 Virginia (1-0-1) meets American (2-0) to start tournament action on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. The Cavaliers are coming off a 2-1 win over Liberty and a 2-2 tie against No. 7 UCLA at the Virginia Soccer Classic last weekend, which they hosted. American enters the Maryland/FILA Classic undefeated after winning the DC College Cup last weekend with a pair of 1-0 wins over Georgetown and Goerge Mason.
Game two on Friday night will feature the No. 5 Terps' pitted against 2000 College Cup finalist Creighton, currently ranked No. 8 by College Soccer Online. That game begins at 7:30 p.m. Maryland won the Virginia Soccer Classic last weekend with a 2-1 double overtime thriller against No. 7 UCLA and a 2-1 regulation victory over Liberty. Creighton comes in at 1-0-1 after finishing in a scoreless tie with Memphis and beating Oregon State 4-2 at the Diadora Challenge.
Tournament action continues Sunday, Sept. 9 when Virginia and Creighton square-off at noon and concludes with Maryland facing American at 2:30 p.m. The Maryland women's soccer team will then play a nonconference match at 5 p.m. against East Carolina to round out the weekend's soccer action. All games will be played at Ludwig Field.
