The University of Maryland men's and women's cross country teams will open their 2001 campaign at the Navy Invitational Saturday at 11 a.m. The meet marks the first for new Maryland coach Trent Sanderson, who was hired over the summer after former coach Dan Rincon retired in the spring.
Also competing in the meet are teams from American, Delaware, George Mason and UMBC. Saturday marks the beginning of the season for American, Delaware and George Mason as well as Maryland. Navy already marked a win in its opening meet of the season when they finished first out of seven teams at the Seagull Invitational hosted be Salisbury State.
Maryland returns a young team, but also welcomes back leaders junior Mike Prada (Fulton, Md.) and senior Meghan White (Cockeysville, N.Y.), who led the Terps in almost every meet last season.
