ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Maryland men's and women's cross country teams both finished fifth at the Navy Invitational today to kick off the 2001 season. Competing in the 8,000 meter race, the Terrapin men were led by junior Mike Prada (Fulton, Md.), who finished in 8th place overall with a time of 25:53.30, while junior Kristin Lubas (York, Pa.) finished in tenth place as the women's leader in the 5,000 meter race in 19:54.65. Teams from Navy placed first in both the men's and women's races.
Other Terps running well today included sophomore Francis Ciganek (Chestertown, Md.) and freshman Adam Ambrus (Shamong, N.J.) with times of 26:37.70 and 27:04.50, respectively. In the women's race, senior Monique Berry (Andover, Conn.) started her senior campaign strong with a time of 20:32.06.
Next on the schedule for the Maryland cross country teams is the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Preview meet on Saturday, Sept. 29. The meet will be hosted by the Clemson Tigers and held in Clemson, S.C.
