Men's Lacrosse Practice Update From Week One

Jan. 28, 2002

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland lacrosse team finished its first week of spring practice last Saturday and is in good shape according to new head coach Dave Cottle.

"We are working extremely hard," he said. "We are paying attention to details. We are working and focusing on what it is going to take to get this team to where we want to be."

Cottle said sophomores Chris Passavia and J.R. Bordley have looked good in the early start to spring practice. New goalie Dan McCormick "seems to be comfortable," according to the coach.

Yale Game Date Moved
Due to a conflict with the Maryland spring football game scheduled for April 27, Cottle has moved the Terps' game with Yale to Friday, April 26 with a 7 p.m. start time in Byrd Stadium. The game will be the Terps' senior night and final game at Byrd Stadium in 2002.

The Terps also battled Yale on a Friday night at Byrd two seasons -- a 12-9 Terps win on April 28, 2000.

Three Scrimmages
The Terps will play three scrimmages to prepare for the 2002 season. Maryland will host all three practice games beginning with a Feb. 9 meeting with Georgetown at 1 p.m. The following day, Feb. 10, Maryland will host Division III power Washington College at noon. The preseason slate finishes with a visit from the 2001 national runner-up Syracuse on Feb. 16 also at noon. The locations of these scrimmages will be announced as the dates near.
