COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
After a 12-day layoff from regular season action, University of Maryland's football team resumes its 2002 schedule tonight when it plays host to Georgia Tech in a crucial Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.
A crowd approaching 45,000 is expected. Tickets are available by calling (301) 314-7070, or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
The Terps, 4-2 overall, have won four of their last five games and are searching for their first league victory. In their only other league tilt, they fell by a 37-10 count to Florida State on Sept. 14. Georgia Tech, also 4-2, is 1-2 in league action. The Yellow Jackets defeated North Carolina (28-13) but fell to Clemson (24-19) and Wake Forest (24-21).
In last year's matchup in Atlanta, also televised nationally on ESPN, the Terps forced overtime on the last play of regulation with a 46-yard field goal by Nick Novak, who then provided the winning points in overtime with another three-pointer in a 20-17 victory. The Terps went on to claim the ACC championship, the school's first in football since 1985.
Kickoff for tonight's game is set for 7:45 p.m. ET.
