GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Sophomore Steve Suter, who last week became the first player in the 50-year history of the ACC to return punts for touchdowns three times in a single season, Monday was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week.
Suter returned a punt 63 yards for a score in the Terps' 45-12 win at Duke last Saturday and totaled 104 yards in returns. He currently shares the NCAA lead with three punt returns for touchdowns.
A look at this week's players of the week:
OFFENSIVE BACK
NC State's T.A. McLendon (Albemarle, N.C.), carried the ball 28 times for a career-high 178 yards and two
touchdowns in the Wolfpack's win over Clemson, 38-6. The freshman caught three passes for 22 yards, while
rushing for 89 yards and scoring a touchdown in both the first and second halves of the game. The 6-2, 220-pound
tailback has rushed for 813 (5.1 yards per carry) this season and has scored 14 touchdowns.
OFFENSIVE LINE
Georgia Tech freshman, Kyle Wallace (Lawrenceville, Ga.) helped the Yellow Jackets to a 23-15 win over Virginia.
The 6-5, 280 pound tackle led the Tech offensive line, helping the Jackets gain 431 total yards, including 211 yards
rushing. The Tech offensive line has allowed no sacks the last two games and just one in the last four games.
DEFENSIVE LINE
Calvin Pace (Douglasville, Ga.) recorded his 28th and 29th career sacks in Wake Forest's 31-0 shutout of the North
Carolina Tar Heels, moving him to within one sack of tying Wake's all-time record-holder, Michael McCrary, who had
30 sacks from 1989-92. The 6-6, 270 senior has eight sacks on the season, which ranks tied for seventh in Wake
history for single-season sacks. The defensive end currently leads the league in both sacks and TFL.
DEFENSIVE BACK
NC State's Terrance Holt (Gibsonville, N.C.) made nine total tackles, seven of them solos, caused a fumble,
recovered a fumble, and intercepted a pass in the Wolfpack's win over Clemson 38-6. The 6-2, 203-pound senior
strong safety also scooped up a blocked Clemson punt and returned it 39 yards for NC State's first touchdown of the
game.
SPECIALIST
Maryland's Steve Suter (Manchester, Md.) set an ACC and Maryland single-season record with his third punt
return for a touchdown in Maryland's 45-12 victory over Duke. The 5-9, 187-pound punt returner is the first player in 50
years of ACC play to return three punts for touchdowns in the same season. Suter has set Maryland's single-season
punt return yardage record (482 yards) and still has five games left in regular season (old record, 420, Bob Smith,
1973).
ROOKIE
Walk-on P.J. Daniels (Houston, Texas), rushed for a game-high 95 yards on 21 carries and caught two passes for
17 yards in Georgia Tech's 23-15 win over Virginia. The 6-0, 199-pound running back scored Tech's first touchdown
on a one-yard run as the Yellow Jackets jumped to a 23-0 halftime lead.
