
Terps Meet Clemson in ACC Semifinals

CARY, N.C. - The No. 10 Maryland men's soccer team (15-4-0) meets No. 21 Clemson (11-3-3) in the ACC semifinals Friday night, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast live in College Park on WMUC, 88.1 FM, and over the Internet at www.wmucradio.com, with pregame beginning at 7:30 p.m. Livestats will also be avaliable at www.theacc.com.
The 2002 ACC Tournament Thus Far
The No. 2 seed Terrapins (15-4-0) advanced to the semifinals after defeating No. 7 seed NC State (5-14-0) 4-0 on Thursday night. The sixth-seeded Tigers (11-3-3) held on against the third-seeded Tar Heels of North Carolina (13-6-1)for a 3-2 win to advance to meet the Terps at 8 p.m. on Friday. No. 5 seed Virginia (14-5-0) beat No. 4 seed Duke (11-7-1) in yesterday's opening game, 4-1. The Cavaliers now meet No. 1 seed Wake Forest (14-0-4), the NCAA's only unbeaten team this season, at 5:30 p.m. Friday night.
The ACC championship game will be played at SAS Stadium in Cary, N.C., on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net South, Sunshine Network and Comcast Sportnet.
The Maryland vs. Clemson Series
Maryland holds a 12-27-1 record all-time against the Tigers, including a 1-0 win in College Park this season on Oct. 26. Tri-captain Scott Buete (Bowie, Md.) scored the gamewinner in the 86th minute that game off assists from Sumed Ibrahim (Tamale, Ghana) and Clarence Goodson (Springfield, Va.).
Current Terps vs. Clemson
Seven current Terrapins have scored points against Clemson in their careers. Earlier this year, it was the combination of Scott Buete, Sumed Ibrahim, and Clarence Goodson scoring for Maryland. In 1999, Siba Mohammed (Tamale, Ghana) had two assists in Maryland's 2-1 win at Clemson. Abe Thompson (Fairfax Station, Va.), scored a goal in the Terps' 3-2 loss at Ludwig Field in 2000, and Seth Stammler (Gahanna, Ohio) and Michael Dello-Russo (Columbia, Md.) connected for the Terps' lone goal during the 2001 ACC tournament game vs. Clemson last season.
