
Thompson Nabs College Soccer News Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Redshirt-sophomore Abe Thompson (Fairfax Station, Va.) received College Soccer News national player of the week honors for his performance in the ACC tournament this past weekend. Thompson was also recognized as the Maryland student-athlete of the week for his accomplishments.
Thompson scored five goals and one assist in the 2002 tournament en route to Maryland's first ACC title since 1996. The striker broke the tournament record for goals in a tournament (5), tied the tournament record for goals in a game (3 vs. Virginia in the championship game), and tied the record for points in a tournament (11). He was named the tournament's MVP for his performance.
As the No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament, Maryland receives a bye in the first round of the tournament as one of the top 16 teams in the field and meets the winner of the American vs. George Washington first round game. The Terps' NCAA second round game will be played on Nov. 27 at 5 p.m. on Ludwig Field.
