COLLEGE PARK, Md.- -
No. 11 Maryland lifted head coach Sasho Cirovski to his 150th career win Wednesday night as it downed Bucknell 1-0 at Ludwig Field. Striker Abe Thompson (Fairfax Station, Va.) had the gamewinner for the Terps, who raise their record to 13-3. Bucknell leaves College Park with a 12-5-1 mark on the season.
Despite six first-half shots and a larger time of possession in the Terps' favor, play was scoreless in the first half. Thompson's goal did not come until the 72nd minute when a free kick set up a scramble in the box. Freshman Kenney Bertz (Liberty Township, Ohio) found Thompson, who sent the ball from left to right at a severe angle to score the gamewinner. The goal was Thompson's team-leading ninth of the season.
Noah Palmer (Williamsburg, Va.) was credited with his seventh shutout of the season and has a 12-3 record in 2002.
Maryland rounds out its regular season action on Friday night at Ludwig Field against Mount St. Mary's. That game begins at 7 p.m. The Terps then travel to the ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C. No. 2 seed Maryland meets No. 7 seed NC State in the opening round of tournament action on Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the SAS Soccer Complex.
