DALLAS, Texas: 2002 COLLEGE CUP - Day One: Morning came early for the College Cup-bound Terps, with a 7 a.m. meeting time set for the Varsity Team House. Icy conditions delayed the Terps from departing Maryland for the airport on time, but once they overcame the weather, their journey to Dallas and the 2002 men's College Cup began.
Fox 5 met the Terps at the Baltimore/Washington International airport for one final interview and once they were checked in, Maryland's sons settled into the airport terminal for a little shut-eye. A 10 a.m. departure time from BWI was pushed back to an 11 a.m. boarding call and once aboard and settled, it was time to wait again during the two-hour delay on the runway.
De-icing and anti-icing treatments were applied to the plane and the Terps were finally on their way at 1 p.m. In-flight studying, napping, and watching TV made the three-hour flight to Dallas seem to go much faster, and when the Terps arrived the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport it was off to the team hotel.
Once there, head coach Sasho Cirovski, Scott Buete, Sumed Ibrahim, Domenic Mediate, and Abe Thompson all met with ESPN sideline reporter Ellen Weinberg in the hotel lobby for a few minutes before departing to Domenic's house in Southlake for dinner.
Domenic's entire family turned-out to join the Terps for a delicious dinner, complete with prime rib, potatoes, green beans and dessert. What time was not spent eating was put into playing pool, ping-pong and foosball competitions throughout the house, as well as meeting the Mediate family and friends in attendance.
Once back at the hotel from dinner, it was time for a team meeting to prepare for Thursday's activities, which will include a walk-through at Gerald J. Ford Stadium, Maryland's first practice in Dallas, more interviews with ESPN, and the College Cup banquet.
