STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Jess Brungo and Tanisha Wright scored 25 points
apiece as No. 11 Penn State beat Maryland 101-74 Wednesday night for coach Rene
Portland's 600th victory.
Wright also grabbed 11 rebounds for Penn State (5-1). Kelly Mazzante, who
led the nation in scoring last season, didn't get on the board until the second
half, but finished with 17 points.
Portland, with the Lady Lions since 1980-81, is the seventh NCAA Division I
coach to reach the 600-win milestone. She has compiled a 600-208 record over 27
seasons.
Renneika Razor had 32 points for Maryland (3-2), and was 12-of-16 from the
foul line.
Jennifer Brenden added 15 points and Ashli Schwab 10 for Penn State.
Brungo, who entered the game averaging 12.2 points, had 15 in the first half
to lead the Lions to a 49-29 lead. Schwab hit a basket to put the Lady Lions up
67-38 with 13:10 left in the second half.
