SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The University of Maryland defeated Syracuse University, 7-0, to improve their record to 7-3 on the season. The No. 73 Terrapins recorded a sweep in both singles and doubles matches against the Orangemen.
Maryland's No. 59-ranked Delila Causevic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) served up a win against Syracuse's Masha Kabanova, 6-0, 6-1. No. 87-ranked team captain Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) also notched a win, defeating Shervin Saedinia, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, senior Pamela Floro (Manila, Philippines) downed Kristine Holte, 6-3, 6-1. Head coach Martin Novak moved freshman Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.), who plays No. 6 singles, to No. 4 against Syracuse. DeCamilla is 9-0 at the No. 6 position and the move to the No. 4 position did not affect her flawless record. She defeated Jessica Schloseer, 6-1, 6-4. At the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions, both junior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) and sophomore Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) recorded 6-4, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2 wins, respectively.
Doubles partners, Causevic and Marker are also undefeated, they improve to 10-0 by handing Kabanova and Saedinia, an 8-5 loss. Both of Maryland's other two doubles teams: DeCamilla and Jedrzejak and Floro and Chavardes notched 8-2 wins.
The Terps will play coach Novak's former team, the University of Minnesota, at 11 a.m. at the Drumlins Tennis Club in Syracuse, N.Y. on Sunday.
