Maryland Women's Tennis Downed By UNC, 6-1

COLLEGE PARK, Md.--- The University of Maryland women's tennis team concluded a competitive weekend with a 6-1 loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels. Terps fall to 9-8 and now are 1-4 against ACC opponents. The Tar Heels, ranked eighth nationally, improve to 18-3 on the season and are undefeated against conference foes. Maryland won two out of three doubles matches to earn the only point of the day.
Maryland's doubles teams found success against UNC. At No.1 doubles, the tandem of junior, two-time All-ACC, Delila Causevic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) and team captain Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) defeated Marlene Mejia and Julie Rotondi, 9-7. Terps' No. 2 doubles team of junior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) and freshman Emily DeCamilla (Sacramento, Calif.) won by the same score, edging UNC's Kendall Cline and Aniela Mojzis. Senior Pamela Floro (Manila, Philippines) and sophomore Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) dropped their doubles contest, 8-5.
However, Terps failed to notch any wins in singles action. All top four seeds fell in straight sets. At No. 1, Causevic lost to Mejia, 6-4, 6-4. Marker dropped to Kate Pinchbeck, 6-1, 6-1 and Floro was defeated by Rotondi, 6-2, 6-3. Jedrzejak, who claimed Maryland's sole win against top ranked Duke this weekend, fell to Mojzis, 6-1, 6-1.
The No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches proved to be more competitive, both ending in three sets and super tiebreakers. DeCamilla lost to Lee Bairos, 2-6, 7-5, 11-9. Teammate Chavardes shared the same luck, falling to Cline, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6.
Maryland will host Virginia at 2:30 p.m. at the Tennis Center at College Park, on April 10. Terps will hope to rebound from the weekend losses and claim their second conference win.
