COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland forward Sumed Ibrahim (Tamale, Ghana) earned a spot on Soccer America's Team of the Week after leading the Terrapins to the Maryland/FILA CLassic Championship. The Terrapins posted a 2-0 record this past weekend with victories over Penn State, 2-1, and Virginia Commonwealth, 4-1.
For Sumed, the honor is his second of the week after he was named ACC player of the week on Monday. A redshirt-junior, Sumed was named the offensive MVP of the tournament after registering a goal and an assist for a total of three points. In the Terrapins' 2-1 victory over the Nittany Lions, he scored the game-winning goal in the 36th minute of play. Against Virginia Commonwealth, his assist came on the Terps' first goal of the day to set the offensive pace in the second half and take Maryland to the 4-1 victory.
For the season, he has 10 points to lead the team. His four assists are also tops for Maryland in that category. Last season, Sumed was Maryland's top scorer with 31 points on nine goals and 13 assists.
Maryland hosts Loyola on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Ludwig Field. The Terps then travel to NC State to open conference action this weekend against the Wolfpack on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m.
