Former Terp All-American Chris Malone Named Assistant Coach At Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse program announced the hiring of former Maryland All-American Chris Malone as an assistant coach. Malone, who joins Todd Cavallaro and Pete Jacobs as assistant coaches with the Quakers, rounds out first-year Head Coach Brian Voelker's staff.

Malone joins the Red and Blue after a one-year stint as an assistant lacrosse coach with the Loyola High School lacrosse team. A 2001 graduate of Maryland, Malone was a third-team All-American for the Terps in 2000 and received honorable mention for All-American as a senior.

Maryland's team captain in 2001, Malone was a two-time scholar-athlete while at Maryland. In addition, he was a two-time recipient of the William Cole Memorial Award, presented to Maryland's outstanding midfielder of the year (2000 and 2001).

He talllied 60 goals and added 37 assists for 97 points in his four-year career in College Park.

Malone continued his playing career in the Major Lacrosse League, as he was selected by the New Jersey Pride in the 2001 college draft. Malone and Jacobs are also teammates on the Pride, as well as members of the Quakers' coaching staff.

Graduating from Maryland with a bachelor's degree, Malone is a native of Timonium, Md. and currently resides in Philadelphia.

Penn is coming off its best season in 13 years, as it recorded the program's first winning season and first nine-win campaign since 1989, going 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the Ivy League in 2002. The Red and Blue open up the 2003 season on March 1 at Notre Dame.
