COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
For the second time in as many years, University of Maryland's football program has finished its season ranked among the nation's top 13 teams.
The Terps, who equaled a school record with 11 wins this past season, were rated No. 13 in both the final Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Top 25 polls.
A year ago, Maryland finished its season No. 10 by ESPN/USA Today and No. 11 by Associated Press.
The back-to-back final rankings are a first for the Terps since the mid-'80s. Not since 1975-76, when Maryland finished its seasons ranked 13th ('75) and eighth ('76), have the Terps had better back-to-back final rankings.
Maryland ended the 2002 campaign ranked in the final seven polls of the season. The Terps have appeared in at least one of the two major polls 17 times during head coach Ralph Friedgen's first two years as head coach.
