Kate Stepanek and Kristen Shew were tied for third individually with 36-hole totals of 147 as Maryland finished Saturday in second place in the team standings at the Nittany Lion Fall Invitational held at Penn State's Blue Course.
Maryland scored 599 over the first two rounds and sits just one shot behind Rollins College heading into Sunday's final 18 holes. Host Penn State is one stroke behind Maryland, with James Madison five shots behind the Lions in fourth.
Stepanek opened with a 2-under 70 for the Terps, taking the first-round lead. She followed with a 77 in her second round to sit at 3-over-par. Shew opened with a 76, but followed with the best second 18 holes in the field at 1-under 71.
Carol Green of James Madison posted 144 through the opening 36 holes, carding identical rounds of even-par 72. Freddie Seeholzer of Rollins was in second at 146.
Also for Maryland on Saturday, Marie Harper was tied for 11th at 78-74--152, Katie Redeker was tied for 15th at 75-78--153 and freshman Jessica Reno was 34th at 80-81--161. Maryland's Kelly MacWhinnie is playing in the tournament as an individual and was tied for 55th at 86-86--172.
