Fall 2003: Played in all four fall events for Maryland… posted scoring average of 78.9 over 11 rounds… best finish of the fall was T13th at Nittany Lion Fall Invitational as Terps placed fourth as a team… posted scores of 76-71-82—229 as Maryland put four players in the top 20… Shew’s 71 was one of two under-par rounds posted by Maryland players during fall season (Kate Stepanek had the other at the same tournament)… nine of her rounds were counted toward team scores of the 11 played by Maryland… was third among Terp finishers at ACC / SEC Challenge with 79-76—155 for T35th finish.
Spring 2003: Played in four of five spring tournaments for a total of 10 rounds … finished sixth and led the Terps to second place at the JMU/Bonnie Hoover Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va. … carded her season-low, a four-over-par 76, in the second round of that tournament en route to a 16-over-par 232 … finished second among Terps at the ACC Championships, where she tied for 21st place … had the third-best stroke average on the team (79.90).
Fall 2002: Competed in two of four fall tournaments for a total of six rounds … missed her personal best by one stroke in the second round of the Nittany Lion Invitational with a two-over-par 74 … averaged 81.67 strokes per round.
Spring 2002: Played in four of five spring tournaments … missed one tournament with the flu … top finish was a tie for 21st in the Edwin Watts/Carolinas Classic, the first tournament of the spring season…recorded a 73 (+2) in the second round of the Edwin Watts/Carolinas Classic … had significant improvement in her stroke average between the fall (82.8) and spring (80.11) seasons.
Fall 2001: Played in all four fall tournaments…averaged 82.8 stokes per round for 12 rounds … top finish was a 25th place showing at the Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate, helping the Terps to a fifth-place team finish.
Before Maryland: 2001 graduate and four-year varsity letter winner in golf at The Tatnall School in Wilmington, Del. … IJGT All American … broke the course record at Wianno Golf Club for Junior Inner City Matches (70) … elected Delaware Female Golfer of the Year in 2000 … two-time Delaware Junior Girls Champion…recruited by University of Florida, Ohio State, University of Alabama, Tulane and Pepperdine.
Personal: Born May 8, 1983 … daughter of John and Sally Shew … father played pro baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Senators … cousin Kevin Joseph currently plays baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals … lists favorite athlete as Tiger Woods because of his internal discipline and hard work ethic … biggest athletic thrills were being in Sports Illustrated for shooting a double eagle and being featured in Youth in Sports television program for golf accomplishments … chose to attend Maryland because of the golf programs
