Maryland-UConn Postgame Quotes

Oct. 12, 2003

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Head Coach Sasho Ciovski
On his team's attack and pressure:
"UConn was tough to penetrate early on. As the game went on, though, we were able to stretch them out and put pressure on them. We did a good job of pressuring them with and without the ball."

On the play of Brian Vitagliano, who got his first start of the season:
"Brian Vitagliano is a consumate team guy. He's a God-send. He's a guy who waited for his chance to play well. To be without Clarence (Goodson) and Abe (Thompson) and play as seamless as we did today says a lot about this team."

On playing better after the loss to North Carolina
"I think the loss to UNC took the pressure of an undefeated season off of us, and the guys got it off of their minds. We want to try and do the little things well, and sometimes a loss gives you a little humility and you get back to doing those little things."

Sophomore forward Jason Garey, who had two goals in the win over UConn
On the game:
"It was a big day for me. It was the first time I scored two goals in a game at Maryland. It was good to have a little bit of a break out against a good team.

On the team's depth:>
"We think that we could take half of our team and that other half would still be a really good team. We know that we are good enough to pick up the slack if we are missing people in our lineup. We know we can score, it's just a matter of getting it done."

Senior forward Nino Marcantonio, who scored the game-winner on a penalty kick
On taking the penalty kick:
"Yeah, I always want to take my own penalty kick when I get fouled. I have always taken PK's, so I am pretty confident."

On the team's depth:
"Our depth is the strength of this team. We had three different forwards score today. We always have a guy that can step in and do the job."
