The Salisbury University men's team and Loyola College
women's team claimed first place honors at the Maryland State Cross Country
Championship Meet in Salisbury on Saturday. Salisbury placed five runners
among the top 11 to win the overall championship for the second straight
year and the college-division championship for the fourth straight year.
Loyola had five of the top eight finishers to easily claim top honors in the
women's race.
Barnabas Togom of Maryland, Eastern Shore won the men's individual title,
registering a time of 25:18 over the 8k course at Winter Place Park. James
DaSilva of Loyola was second in 25:36 and Tristan Gilbert of Salisbury
finished third in 26:07. Gilbert was the top finisher among the
college-division (non-Division I) entrants.
Loyola's Andrea Rovegno won the women's individual title with a time of
21:30 over the 6k course. Loyola's Jackie Truncelito was second in 21:53 and
Eva Slavikova of UMES finished third in 22:01. Salisbury's Kelli McKay was
the top finisher in the women's college-division, placing 18th overall in
23:38.
The top 15 overall men's and women's finishers earn all-State honors.
Salisbury placed six men among the top 15, followed by four from UMES and
three from Loyola. On the women's side, Towson had seven runners among the
top 15 while Loyola had six.
Salisbury's top men's finishers: Tristan Gilbert (3rd, 26:07); Steve Jacobs
(7th, 26:55); Will Murdoch (8th, 27:02); Will Detwiler (10th, 27:11); Joe
Flores (11th, 27:17); Brad Ellis (15th, 27:28).
Salisbury top women's finishers: Kelli McKay (18th, 23:38); Lauren Bragg
(20th, 23:46);
Stacy Hopkins (35th, 24:46).
