COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland men's lacrosse coach Dave Cottle has released the Terps' 2004 spring schedule. The Terps, who reached the NCAA Semifinals in 2003 and finished the season ranked No. 3, will play one of the most competitive schedules in the nation in 2004. Maryland takes on eight teams that finished 2003 ranked in the top 20 and four that advanced to at least the NCAA Quarterfinals.
The 2004 schedule will be highlighted by the 100th meeting between Maryland and arch-rival Johns Hopkins on Saturday, April 17 at Homewood Field. The Terps will also rematch 2003 national champion Virginia at Byrd Stadium on April 3 at 1 p.m.
The season opens on February 28, as the Terps travel to Georgetown for the first time in the regular-season, for a noon face-off. The Terps and Hoyas scrimmaged for several seasons before setting up a new series last season.
The Terps will host a total of six games this season beginning with Towson on March 13 and concluding with Pennsylvania on May 8. The Quakers are the only new team on the 2004 schedule from last season's slate. Maryland has not played Penn since the 1987 NCAA Quarterfinals. Navy will make its bi-yearly visit on April 10 while Butler and Notre Dame each come to Byrd Stadium for their first-ever regular-season games on March 23 and May 1, respectively.
The ACC Tournament will be held in Chapel Hill, N.C., on April 23 and 25, 2003 at the University of North Carolina.
Maryland opens the spring season with a pair of scrimmages -- at Princeton on Feb. 14 and against Syracuse at home on Feb. 21.
The television schedules from WMAR Channel 2 in Baltimore and CSTV (College Sports Television) have yet to be released, but Maryland is sure to be a part of both networks' telecasts.
