
Maryland Wrestling Signs Top-Ranked Recruit

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland wrestling head coach Pat Santoro has announced that Josh Haines has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Maryland. He will join the team in time for the 2004-2005 season.
Haines was the 2003 Pennsylvania State AAA champion in the 189-pound weight class and attends Northampton High School in Northampton, Pa. Amateur Wrestling News, W.I.N. Magazine and Wrestling USA Magazine rank Haines as the No. 1 wrestler in the nation at 189 pounds.
He was ranked as the No. 11 overall recruit nationally by Intermatwrestle.com. A junior freestyle All-American at 189 pounds in 2002, Haines is a two-time district and regional champion. After placing third in the state tournament as a sophomore, he went 44-1 as a junior and finished with a No. 5 national ranking.
Haines has 43 career pins and an overall record of 117-17 going into his senior year. He also placed third at the 2003 Beast of the East Tournament.
