COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's soccer team (17-2-1) is No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will receive a first-round bye, as announced by the NCAA today. Ludwig Field will be the site for any game that Maryland plays in until the national semifinals, which will be held in Columbus, Ohio.
"This was one of our goals - to be one of the top four seeds so that we can play at Ludwig," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "As competitive as this tournament is, we have to really concentrate and work on our team and the process of playing soccer, and let the outcomes and the opponents take care of themselves."
Maryland will play the winner of the NC State-Old Dominion match on Wednesday, November 26, at 6 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
UCLA, the 2002 champions, is the tournament's top seed. The Bruins defeated the Terrapins on their way to the title a season ago, but Maryland handed UCLA its only defeat this year (a 1-0 win in College Park on Sept. 5).
Six Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) teams made the field of 48, including Wake Forest and North Carolina, who were awarded the tournament's third and fourth seeds, respectively. In addition to those teams and NC State, ACC Tournament champion Virginia and Clemson also received bids.
