Coach Dave Cottle Signs 10 For 2005 Men's Lacrosse Season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland men's lacrosse head coach Dave Cottle has announced the signing of 10 high school seniors to National Letters Of Intent to play lacrosse for the University of Maryland starting in the fall of 2004 for the 2005 spring season.

Defenseman Joe Amoyal (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall High School) is serving as team captain this spring as the Cardinals' top defenseman, who guards the top attacker. He has 47 groundballs last season as he played both close defense and long-stick defensive midfield. He has been on the varsity team for three seasons and along with future Terp Jeff Reynolds led Calvert Hall to their first MIAA title in 26 years last season. He is also member of the MIAA Championship soccer team -- and led the Cardinals to the first-ever undefeated season in conference history as the starting goalkeeper. He is also a member of Israel's Under-17 National Soccer Team.

Goalkeeper Jason Carter (Crownsville, Md./St. Mary's High School) has been a two-sport star for the Annapolis-based school. He stopped 68 percent of shots he faced as a junior with the Saints. He is serving as a football team captain this fall.

Defenseman Joe Cinosky (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lake High School) continues the legacy of great defensemen from his high school playing for the Terps. An All-American for the Lakers in leading them to the New Jersey championship game as a junior as he was named co-winner of the New Jersey Outstanding Defenseman and an All-State selection. He scooped up 56 groundballs and had six assists and one goal last season. He was also an All-New Jersey pick as a sophomore as he started and had 36 groundballs and two assists. This fall, he captained the football team to the New Jersey State Championship and a 9-0 record.

Attackman Quinn Cooke (Fairfax, Va./Oakton High School) is a four-year varsity player. He has been an All-District selection each of the past two seasons. He was a second-team All-Region pick as a junior as he scored 34 goals and added 24 assists for 53 points along with 54 groundballs. As a sophomore, he was 61 points on 42 goals and 19 assists.

Midfielder Will Dalton (Queenstown, Md./St. Mary's High School) joins teammate Jason Carter at Maryland as they have done on both of the football and lacrosse for the past few years. Dalton has served as a team captain of the football and hockey teams with the Saints. He was an All-County and All-Metro selection as a junior. He scored 24 goals and added 10 assists while winning 72 percent of his face-offs.

Defenseman Zach Hinton (Eldersberg, Md./Liberty High School) has started on defense of the varsity squad for the past three seasons and will serve as a captain this spring. He was named a first-team all-conference and All-County selection as a junior in leading the Lions to the Maryland State semifinals and a regional championship. As a sophomore, he was an All-County pick.

Midfielder Spencer McAllister (Easton, Md./Easton High School) was a first-team All-Midshore selection as a junior and second-team pick as a sophomore. As a junior, he scored 30 goals and had 18 assists for 48 points. He also scooped up 67 groundballs and caused 25 turnovers. In his junior year, he scored 20 goals and added eight assists for 28 points as well having 56 groundballs. In his freshman year, she had 16 points (11 goals and five assists) along with 58 groundballs.

Defenseman Matt Rankin (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East High School) has been a four-year starter. He was named all-league in each of the past three seasons. He was a first-team All-Area pick as a junior in leading his team in groundballs with 103. He also scored six goals and added five assists while winning 57 percent on face-offs.

Defensive midfielder Jeff Reynolds (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall High School) has been a two-sport star for the Cardinals in lacrosse and football. As a junior, he won 67 percent of his face-offs and grabbed 52 groundballs. He covered the opponent's top midfielder as short-stick middie last season. He has been a member of the varsity squad since his sophomore season and has 15 goals and 12 assists in two seasons. In football, he doubled as a running back and defensive back in leading the Cardinals to the MIAA Championship game.

Midfielder Andrew Urquhart (Southport, Conn./Fairfield Prep) is a star on the football and lacrosse field with the Jesuits. On the lacrosse field, as a junior, he was named to the All-State second team, all-conference, Connecticut Post All-Star Team, New Haven Register All-Star Team, Connecticut Select team and the Connecticut All-Star team. He scored 45 goals and added 12 assists last season after netting 24 goals and 14 assists as a sophomore. In football, he served as a team captain as a senior and was an All-Conference and All-Star selection as a junior.
