Sacred Heart Claims Third Place in Terrapin Classic

College Park, Md. - Amanda Pape had 24 points to lead all scorers as Sacred Heart defeated Louisiana Lafayette, 75-60, in the consolation game of the Terrapin Classic on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Comcast Center. On Friday, the Pioneers dropped their opening round contest to Maryland, 90-49, while the Ragin' Cajuns were defeated by Maryland-Eastern Shore, 60-57.
Sacred Heart (3-1) built an early 17-10 lead as Pape, who was named to the all-tournament team, made the second of two free throws at the 10:28 mark. Louisiana Lafayette scored the next six points as Anna Petrakova, who had 21 points and 15 rebounds, tallied four during that span.
The Pioneers led by seven with 4:01 remaining before intermission when Pape stole a Morgan Mayon pass and converted a layup on the other end resulting in a 27-20 score. The Ragin' Cajuns cut the deficit down to two after a jumper by Ashley Blanche, before SHU ended the half on a 8-2 run to take its largest lead of the first session at 35-27.
Sacred Heart continued its run to open the second half tallying 13 of the first 16 points for a 48-30 advantage at the first media timeout. Pape had six points during that spurt and ULL notched all its points from the free throw line, while committing four turnovers.
Louisiana Lafayette (1-2) used a 16-5 run to reduce the lead to seven at 53-46 with 11:30 left. Kayla Edwards notched all six of her points during that stretch hitting a pair of three pointers, while Morgan Mayon, who had 14 points, added five.
The Pioneers answered with a 16-4 spurt of their own to grab their largest lead at 69-50 at the 4:57 mark. Pape had seven points in that span, while Kerri Burke scored four markers, all from the free throw line.
SHU's Mary Rush and Colleen Duggan had 14 and 10 points, respectively, while Kate Maher had a team-high 10 rebounds.
