COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland football team ended its regular season with a return to the Top 25 of both major polls, chiming in at 24th in the latest Associated Press poll and 25th in the most recent ESPN/USA Today Coaches' poll. It is the first return for the Terps since falling out of the polls after the team's season-opening loss to Northern Illinois.
Maryland started the season as the No. 15 team in the nation by AP and the No. 13 team in the Coaches' poll, but did not last beyond week one after the loss to NIU, a team the nation has since learned to respect. On the heels of two double-digit, come-from-behind road wins, however, the team will head into postseason play ranked in both polls, a feat that the team has accomplished at the close of each of head coach Ralph Friedgen's three seasons.
Last night's 41-28 win at Wake Forest had the Terrapins close their 2003 regular season campain with a 9-3 record while securing second place in the conference with a 6-2 ACC mark.
The Terps will now prepare for a Jan. 1st appearance in the Toyota Gator Bowl, their third bowl appearance in three years. For ticket information, please call the Terrapin Ticket Office at (301) 314-7070.
