BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Carrie Mason scored 12 of her 16 points in the second
half, and No. 20 Virginia Tech remained unbeaten with a 63-43 victory Saturday
over Maryland.
Mason hit a 3-pointer to cap a 13-0 run that gave the Hokies (7-0) a 47-26
lead with 8:27 remaining. Virginia Tech went on to lead by as many as 23
points.
Kalika France led Maryland (6-2) with 12 points, and Anesia Smith and Shay
Doron had 10 each. Only three other Terps scored.
The Hokies led 21-15 at the break, and started the second half with a 9-2
spurt capped by Ieva Kublina's jumper that gave the Hokies a 30-17 lead.
Doron's five points in a 7-0 run pulled Maryland to 34-26 with 14:39 left,
but the Terps got no closer. Maryland shot just 34 percent and was outrebounded
46-27.
Kublina had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Hokies. Kerri Gardin added 13
points.
