Sumed A Hermann Trophy Finalist

Dec. 15, 2003

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior midfielder Sumed Ibrahim has been named one of three finalists for the Missouri Athletic Club (M.A.C.) Hermann Trophy, awarded annually to the top collegiate soccer player. The finalists were determined in voting of Division I men's soccer coaches who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Sumed scored seven goals and added seven assists and helped the Terps to the College Cup for the second consecutive season. He is ranked in the Top 10 at Maryland for career points and assists.

Chris Wingert of St. John's and Joseph Ngwenya of Coastal Carolina are the other finalists. The trio will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, Jan. 9, for a news conference, where the winner of the award will be revealed. A banquet at the Club that evening will feature the formal presentation of the prestigious crystal soccer ball trophy to the winner.

In addition to that honor, Sumed and senior midfielder Scott Buete were named as NSCAA First Team All-America selections. For Sumed, he becomes just the fourth Terrapin to be a two-time first team pick.

Buete scored three goals and had three assists as a team captain this season. He was a third team NSCAA All-America selection a season ago. Buete's 24 career assists rank fourth all-time at Maryland, and he started in 88 games as a Terrapin during his career.
