COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After shooting a scorching 62.5 percent from the field in two games of the Terrapin Classic and earning all-tournament honors, Maryland freshman Shay Doron was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, which was announced recently. Doron is the first Terrapin this season to earn a conference weekly honor.
Doron (Great Neck, N.Y.) scored in double figures in back-to-back games of the Terrapin Classic. She led all scorers with 22 points in the 90-49 win over Sacred Heart, going 9-for-12 from the field. She followed up that performance with a 15-point outing on 6-for-12 shooting and dishing out a career-high six assists, helping the Terps to a 97-65 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore and to the Terrapin Classic title. Doron, who led all players in the tournament in points, field goals made and three-point field goals made, was 4-for-4 from three-point land, sinking a pair in each game.
Doron leads Maryland with 16.5 points per game and nine steals. In her first-career collegiate game on Nov. 21, she tied the NCAA record and broke the Maryland and ACC records with 23 free throws made.
The Terrapins (4-0) are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 3 to close out a five-game homestand hosting top-10 opponent Penn State (3-1) at 7 p.m.
