JACKSONVILLE - Maryland head coach Friedgen met with the media for about 10 minutes after the Terps' conducted their second practice at Jacksonville University on Sunday afternoon.
Here are some of his comments:
On the second practice:
"We had a good practice. The kids worked hard, we were a little sharper than we were the first day. I thought we had another hard practice. I liked the attitude and the enthusiasm of the players. I liked the competitivness of the practice."
On the Scott McBrien publicity of him not talking to the media:
"I don't even know if there still is a story ... I just think it's something that Scott does not need on him. Things can me made up that are not accurate (if he spoke). If you want to blame someone, than blame me for him not talking to the media. That's the way it is going to be, I have the full support of his parents. Actually Scott wanted to talk this time, but I said no."
On McBrien closing his career against the team he started with in WVU:
"Scott is really a very unemotionay guy. To me, he has never really mentioned West Virginia. I think he has a lot of really good friends there. There are guys he still talks to and communicates with. From Scott's standpoint, I don't think he looks at it in an adversarily way. I think he's a competitor and he goes out an competes. I know he has a lot of close friends on the team"
On being a bowl game for the third year in a row and getting motivated for it:
"I think our kids are very motivated. I have been pretty pleased. I don't see that as a problem. Guys are excited about playing in the Gator Bowl. They are excited about the tyoe of team they are playing. We play these guys every year so we know what type of team they are. It's going to be a physical game and we have a lot of respect for their program. We have to be at our best to have a chance."
