Kiessling, Pandullo Have Strong Finishes at Southern Scuffle

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jason Kiessling and Matt Pandullo of Maryland each split their two matches on Monday, reaching the consolation quarterfinals at the Southern Scuffle wrestling tournament hosted by UNC Greensboro.

Kiessling defeated Josh Kleckner of East Stroudsburg in his first match Monday in the 157-pound division. He then lost to Paul Bjorlo of Virginia in the next bout that would have sent him into the fifth-place match.

Pandullo, wrestling at 125 pounds, pinned Jim Dicicco of Rider in 3:45 in his first match on Monday, but fell to Jeremy Hartrum of NC State, 12-4, in the next round.

Jerry Afari of Maryland also made it to the second day of the Southern Scuffle, but lost his first bout on Monday to Jason Cox of VMI, suffering a fall at 3:59.

Maryland scored 21 team points in the event to place 17th in the standings. Missouri won the team title with 185 points, with Minnesota in second at 169.5 and Edinboro third at 108.5.

The Terrapins compete this Saturday, Jan. 3, at the Hitchcock Classic in Millersville, Pa.
