Terp Defenders Howley and Passavia Featured On Cover Of Inside Lacrosse

Feb. 24, 2003

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland men's lacrosse All-American defenders Michael Howley (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Chris Passavia (Stony Brook, N.Y.) are featured on the cover of this week's Inside Lacrosse magazine available on newsstands now in the Baltimore/D.C. area.

The dynamic duo is featured in a story entitled "Special Forces" written by John Jiloty. Here's the preview of the story from the magazine: Led by All-Americans Michael Howley and Chris Passavia, Maryland's defense returns intact and more experienced after leading the country last year. The Terps' D is the most aggressive, feared unit in the country and it's only getting scarier.

Also included in the Inside Lacrosse Men's Preview edition is a feature on graduate student Brian Hunt (West Chester, Pa.), who came to the Terps after an All-American undergraduate career at Yale.

Inside Lacrosse also ranks the top units in the nation and lists the Terps' defense as No. 1.

In the magazine's "Noteables" the Terps have several players listed. Howley is on the list of "Nutcrackers" who are described as lacrosse linebackers. Passavia is included on the list of "Garbage Men" as the sport's top takeaway artists on defense. Dan LaMonica (Parkton, Md.) and Mike Mollot (Holbrook, N.Y.) are on the "Ankle Breakers" list for their ability to change direction. Hunt is also on the list for "Howitzers" for the the hardest shooters in lacrosse.

The No. 5 Terps look to open their 2003 regular-season on Saturday, March 1 against No. 7 Duke (2-0) at 1 p.m. at the Artificial Turf Facility. The game is the first of four appearances for Maryland on WMAR-TV Channel 2 in Baltimore.
