Maryland's Paul Gillette was named ACC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week.
Gillette, a defensive midfielder from Severna Park, Md., led the Terrapins to a 2-0 week including an upset of No. 2 Virginia on Saturday at Klockner Stadium.
The junior keyed Maryland's 18-9 win over Butler on Tuesday with a career-high nine groundballs. He also added an assist in the win as he continued his solid defense. Against No. 2 Virginia, Gillette was again a star on defense in helping the Terrapins to hold the Virginia offense scoreless for 33:06 spaning the first three quarters. He scooped up four groundballs. Gillette also assisted the go-ahead goal, which gave Maryland the 3-2 lead.
On the year, Gillette has a team-high 36 groundballs as well as a goal and three assists and 11 caused turnovers.
Up next for the newly-ranked no. 4 Terrapins is a non-conference match-up at No. 16 Navy on Saturday, April 5.
