Eight Terps Earn USILA All-American Honors

May 26, 2003

BALTIMORE - Eight Terps earned USILA All-American honors on Monday as the teams were released at the national championship game (won by Virginia, 9-7) at M&T Bank Stadium. The eight honorees are the most since nine Terps were named All-Americans in 1998 -- the last time Maryland made the NCAA Semifinals before this season.

Senior Michael Howley (Wantagh, N.Y.) was named to the first team on defense. Howley had been named a second team All-American each of the past two seasons. He is the first Terp defenseman to be named to the first team since Dan Radebaugh in 1995.

Junior Chris Passavia (Stony Brook, N.Y.) was honored as a second team selection on defense. Last season, Passavia was a third team pick.

Four Terps were named to the third team: midfielders Mike Mollot (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Ryan Moran (Setauket, N.Y.) along with defenseman Lee Zink (Rowayton, Conn.) and goalie Danny McCormick (McLean, Va.).

Two more Terps earned honorable mention All-American honors as senior defensive midfielder Brett Harper (Columbus, Ohio) and freshman attacker Joe Walters (Rochester, N.Y.) were also named to the team.
