No. 3 Seeded Terps Host Ohio State This Sunday In NCAA First Round At 2 p.m., On CSTV

May 4, 2003

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's lacrosse returns to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed in 2003. The Terps (10-3) will face Ohio State (9-4), the Great Western Lacrosse League champion, this Sunday, May 11 in an afternoon game at Byrd Stadium. The game will face-off at 2 p.m. and be nationally broadcast live on College Sports Television (CSTV), which is available on DirecTV Channel 610.

The Terps are making their 26th NCAA Tournament appearance, the third most of any school in NCAA history. Maryland returns to the event after missing it last season.

"We are excited to be in the NCAA Tournament," said head coach Dave Cottle, who enters his 15th tournament as a coach. "We have a better team this season that last season. We played the second-best schedule in the nation and are prepared to make a good run in the NCAA Tournament. Ohio State was 9-4 this year and they have a good goalie and a good face-off man, so we will be prepared for them.

The Terps have played Ohio State three previous times, winning all three games by a combined score of 50-12. The last meeting came on March 22, 1994 as the Terps downed the Buckeyes, 16-2 in College Park.

The winner of the Maryland/Ohio State game will take on the winner of the UMass (12-2)/Hofstra (11-5) game on Saturday, May 17 at Syracuse's Carrier Dome. It could be the Terps' second trip to the Dome this season, as they scrimmaged the Orangemen in mid-February.
