
Spence Joins Terrapin Women for 2003-04 Hoops Season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's basketball announces the addition of junior transfer Alli Spence (Lafayette, Colo.) to this year's roster, adding more experience and depth to the Terps' rebuilding efforts under second-year head coach Brenda Frese. A two-year point guard for Old Dominion, Spence is on campus and enrolled in summer school.
"We are extremely excited to have Alli join our basketball family.She is the total package," said Frese. "Alli is an excellent student and is extremely driven to be the best player she can be. She has had tremendous success in both high school and college and will undoubtedly help pushour team to the next level. She is a proven winner andfits in perfectly with the up-tempo style we like to play.Alli is a true point guard in every sense of the word.She is driven, self-motivated, can knock down the three and loves to distribute the ball to her teammates.We expect great things in the future out of Alli."
The CAA Rookie of the Year in 2000, Spence played the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons at ODU before taking a year off for medical reasons. Spence averaged 5.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game during her Monarch career and led Old Dominion in assists her sophomore year while logging 13 starts.
Spence enjoyed a highly-decorated high school career, attending Chatfield Senior High under the guidance of Linda Funderburk. A Parade All-American, she led her team to back-to-back state championships her final two years. The MVP of the state tournament her junior and senior season, Spence averaged almost seven assists per game and was also a four-time all-state selection. Spence graduated as Colorado's all-time assists leader and had her Chatfield jersey retired. An all-star athlete, she was also named academic all-state.
