COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland's Abe Thompson (Fairfax, Va.) scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute lift the No. 2 Maryland men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 1 UCLA. A record crowd of 6,143 came out to Ludwig Field to support the Terps at the Maryland/adidas Classic.
Maryland avenged last season's NCAA College Cup semifinal loss to the Bruins with the thrilling victory at a frenzied Ludwig Field on Friday night.
The record crowd broke the facility record of 4,380 set when the Maryland women's team hosted North Carolina on Oct. 10, 1997. The men's old record was 3,723, set on Sept. 13, 1997 against Virginia.
