COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's basketball player Shay Doron was named ACC Co-Rookie of the Week, which was announced today by the league. She earns the honor after leading the Terps with another record performance against Wake Forest.
Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) netted 23 of her career-high 32 points in the second half at Wake Forest, leading Maryland to a 75-58 win. She was 9-for-17 from the field en route to tying the freshman class school record for points in a game. It is also the seventh-highest point total by a Terrapin women's basketball player in school history and tied for the most by an ACC player this year. Doron was also 11-for-12 from the charity stripe, while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out five assists.
Doron snags Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season. She earned the honor earlier in the season on Dec. 1. She shares this week's honor with Florida State's Shante Williams. Williams averaged 16.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games last week.
The Terps look to remain one of two undefeated teams in ACC play as they play Florida State on Monday night. Maryland returns home on Thursday, Jan. 15 when it takes on Georgia Tech at 7 p.m.
