Postseason Play Continues for Several Terps in Coming Weeks

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Several members of the University of Maryland football team will be in action in the next few weeks as postseason bowls for college seniors start up this weekend. At present, eight Terrapin players have been invited to play in the bowls while head coach Ralph Friedgen is in Hawaii this week as one of the coaches of Saturday's Hula Bowl.
Friedgen is coaching the "Kai" squad and is opposed by Ohio State's Jim Tressel. The bowl takes place this Saturday, Jan. 17, in Maui and will feature the head coach and four players from his 10-3 Gator Bowl champion squad of 2003. Offensive guard Lamar Bryant will be joined by linemate Eric Dumas, safety Dennard Wilson and tight end Jeff Dugan on the Kai team. Dugan has also been invited to this year's NFL combine in Indianapolis. The Hula Bowl will be televised by ESPN at 8:00 p.m.
Earlier in the day on Saturday, CSTV will broadcast the Las Vegas All-American Classic at 3:30 p.m., an event that defensive end Scott Smith will participate in. Smith successfully recovered from back surgery to play in the Gator Bowl and will look to showcase his skills at UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium.
Next Saturday, Jan. 24, free safety Madieu Williams will play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. Williams was the lone Terp invited to the game that will air on ESPN at 5:00 p.m.
On Jan. 31, three Terrapins will be playing in the Gridiron Classic, an event sponsored by Florida Citrus Sports that will be taking place for the first time in The Villages, Fla. Tailback Bruce Perry, quarterback Scott McBrien and linebacker Leon Joe will play in the game that will also be televised by ESPN at Noon on the 31st. The three Terrapins are among 12 ACC players who will suit up for the classic.
