COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland football team officially put the wraps on its 2003 Toyota Gator Bowl-winning season at today's annual team banquet which was held at the Martin's Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Md. At the event, team award winners were announced to the sold-out crowd.
The banquet, which featured master of ceremonies Chick Hernandez of Comcast SportsNet, honored the overall accomplishments of a team which won 10 games for the third straight season, has posted 31 wins in three years, and now looks ahead to a season that sees it featured by ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel as a preseason No. 8 team in the nation.
Amongst the winners this year were team and offensive most valuable player, senior QB Scott McBrien, who wins both awards after completing his two years as a starter at Maryland with a 21-6 record and two bowl MVP trophies after this year's performance in the Gator Bowl. Fellow senior Madieu Williams, fresh off of an appearance in yesterday's Senior Bowl, was named the team's most valuable defensive player while junior Jon Condo's consistent play at longsnapper earned him the team's nod as top special teams performer.
Below is a complete list of the winners at today's awards in the order they were announced:
