COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland gymnastics team won its first meet of the year in dominating fashion on Saturday, sweeping Temple, James Madison and EAGL-rival Towson. The Terps looked quite comfortable competing at home for the first time, posting a season-high total of 195.750. Propelling the team to victory were many outstanding individual performances, as Maryland was not forced to count a single fall throughout the competition.

The Terps put together yet another impressive showing on the vault, as seniors Rachel Sibert and Sarah Hoenig finished first and second, respectively. Sibert's score of 9.9 marked a new career-high and tied for the second-highest vault score ever by a Terrapin. Hoenig's 9.825 tied her career-high and is a season-best score, and the Terps' score of 48.925 marked the fifth-best total on that event in program history.

Having the lead after the first rotation, Maryland moved on to the bars and posted a season-high total of 48.975. Leading the way was junior Mandy Pascual, who scored a season-high mark of 9.875 to finish second in the meet. Close behind tied for third were sophomore Rachel Martinez and freshman Rachel Colon, each with a 9.800. Sophomore Kristi Skowronski and freshman Marisa St. Louis also put up high scores, finishing tied for fifth with a 9.750.

The Terps reached the halfway point of the meet with a slim lead over conference rival Towson and a commanding lead over James Madison and Temple. On the beam, the young squad continued to notch impressive marks. Hoenig took the title on beam with a 9.9, followed closely by sophomore Cameron Logan in second with a season-high score of 9.8. Martinez's 9.750 was good enough to tie for fifth overall.

Finishing on the crowd-favorite floor exercise, the Terps executed several impressive routines. Sophomore Ginny Scott took her first event title of the year with a 9.9 on the apparatus. In second was Hoenig with a 9.825 and finishing tied for fourth with scores of 9.8 were junior Leah Brill and sophomore Cameron Logan. Combining for another season-high team total, the Terps totaled a 48.975 on the event.

In the all-around competition, sophomore Rachel Martinez took her second title of the season with a 38.950, beating out Towson's Stacie Hogan who finished second with a 38.775. Tiger teammate Nicole Groccia rounded out the top three with a 38.750.

Leading the meet on all four events, the Terps' final score of 195.750 marked the 13th-best in program history. Coming in second with its first loss of the year was Towson with a 194.275. Following the Tigers were Temple in third (189.300) and James Madison in fourth (188.950).

Next up for the Terps is the Governor's Cup on Feb. 7 at Towson, where they will also face North Carolina and NC State.
