Pandullo, Kiessling Win Weight Classes at Hitchcock Classic

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Matt Pandullo and Jason Kiessling of Maryland won the individual championships in the 125-pound and the 157-pound classes Saturday at the Hitchcock Classic wrestling tournament hosted by Millersville University.

Pandullo, one of two Terrapin seniors, won a pair of matches at 125 to claim the Terps' lone individual championship of the day. He beat Guy Gibson of Appalachian State, 11-2, then won the championship match, 12-7, over Dave Hagel of Penn.

Kiessling, a sophomore, went 3-0 at 157 to capture that bracket. He beat Mitch Webster of George Mason, 6-4, pinned Alex Davis of Appalachian State in 42 seconds and beat Carl Elliott of Appalachian State, 11-2, in the final.

Maryland placed second in the team standings to Appalachian State, 144-98.5. Host Millersville was in third at 90 points, with George Mason and Penn finishing fourth and fifth.

The Terrapins were aided by by a pair of second-place finishes. Junior Mike Lupa was second at 133 pounds, starting his day 2-0 before losing in the final, 12-5, to David Emison of George Mason. John Antonelli, also a Terp junior, won twice at 165 before losing to Lee Roper of ASU in the championship match, 2-0.

Charlie Pinto (141) and Jerad Villecco (149) each finished third for Maryland. Terrapin heavyweight Barry Stein joined Villecco with a pair of wins by fall on the day, as Stein placed fifth in his weight class.

Maryland faces Slippery Rock and Duquesne in a double-dual match at Duquesne next Saturday.
