COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland sophomore tight end Vernon Davis was named this week's John Mackey Award Tight End of the Week for his play against Duke last weekend. The award is given to the tight end determined by the Nassau County Sports Commission to have had the best week of any TE in the nation. With his being named recipient of this week's award, Davis has also been added to the award's watch list for 2004.
Davis turned in a career-best performance at Duke, recording four catches for 101 yards and three touchdowns as the Terps won for the third time in four outings. In addition to the three TDs -- a first under Friedgen at Maryland -- Davis' 100-yard effort was the first by a Terp since Scooter Monroe had 167 against UNC in 2002.
Davis is one of 29 players on the "watch list" for this year's award. For more info, go to the Mackey Award's website Click here
