
Witman Leads Golfers to Second Place

LEESBURG, Va. - Sophomore Tyler Witman tied for second individually and led Maryland to a second-place finish in the team standings Monday at the Georegetown Hoya Invitational men's golf tournament.
The event was the final tournament in the Terrapins' fall season for the men. Maryland shot a 583 over the 36-hole event, placing 14 shots behind Eastern Michigan, which had the best two team scores of the tournament at 285 and 284.
Witman shot a 2-under-par 70 on Sunday's opening round, then followed with a 72 on Monday. His 142 total was four shots behind medalist Korey Mahoney of Eastern Michigan, who shot rounds of 70-68 for a 138 total.
Also for Maryland, John Eades had a 70 on Monday to tie for eighth at 145, freshman J.J. Occi also finished with a 70 to tie for 12th at 146. Matt Schall tied for 37th with a 152 total, with Bobby MacWhinnie tying for 41st at 154.
As a team, Maryland rallied from a fifth-place tie into its second-place finish. The Terrapins will be off during the winter months before opening their spring season in February.
