Pete Hess finished in fourth place overall and led the Terrapin men to a 12th place finish at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in the Bronx, NY this weekend. Hess followed up his 23rd place, All-Region performance last weekend with a time of 25:03 on the five-mile course. La Salle captured both the men's and women's titles, scoring a meet-best 56 points in the men's race.
Florent Groberg was the next Terp finisher, finishing in 61st place overall with a time of 26:08. Nathaniel Zola (26:14) and Matt Adami (26:15) finished in 72nd and 73rd place, respectively. Rounding out the Maryland runners were: Mike Fleg (98th place), Matt Sanders (120th) and Eric Marenburg (134th).
177 runners competed in the five-mile race, with Penn State's Chris Foster capturing the individual title in a time of 24:55. Yale's Casey Moriarty (25:00), Duke's Michael Hatch (25:01), Hess and William and Mary's Sean Anastasia-Murphy (25:06) rounded out the top five runners.
Hess, an All Mid-Atlantic Region selection after finishing 23rd in last weekend's NCAA Regional competition, and Sean Anastasia-Murphy of William and Mary were the only sophomores among the race's top 10 finishers. Race-winner La Salle had four runners among the top 11 to take first place. William and Mary (87 points), Duquesne (109), Penn State (132) and James Madison (203) rounded out the top five teams.
