Jackson Named Second Team All-America by Rivals.com

Dec. 13, 2004

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland junior linebacker D'Qwell Jackson was named as a second team All-American by Rivals.com today. The honor is the first postseason All-American recognition for the Largo, Fla., native, the Atlantic Coast Conference's leading tackler in 2004.

Jackson makes it four straight years under Ralph Friedgen that a Terrapin has been named to a first or second team All-American squad and the third time in four years that a middle linebacker has earned the honor. E.J. Henderson was a consensus pick in 2001 and 2002, Brooks Barnard and Bruce Perry were second team selections in 2001 (Football News); Steve Suter second team in 2002 (The Sporting News); and Randy Starks a second team pick in 2003 (The Sporting News).

Prior to 2001, just two Maryland players had been named All-American since 1985.

Jackson led the ACC in tackles this season, racking up 123 tackles, 7.0 TFLs, 2.0 sacks and two interceptions en route to first team All-ACC honors. He will enter his senion season with 310 career tackles, just 39 outside of the Maryland career Top 10.
